The Mosquito

The Mosquito was originally conceived as a creative exercise to design around the motifs and characteristics of a particular animal.

Crafted from excess or unused medical equipment to form a mosquito’s body, the model was completely functional in its ability to siphon liquids from the needle protruding from its head. To provide additional contextual emphasis, the model was photographed standing atop raw pork belly to insinuate the presence of skin. This composition was further influenced by the use of cranberry juice inside the syringe as a substitute for blood.

Uniquely, this project was revisited years later and its visuals repurposed for a hypothetical campaign by the Victoria’s Department of Health to promote ambulance cover within the state.
